# Troubleshoot getting started

> This page is about FlutterFlow (the app builder you use by describing your app), not FlutterFlow Studio.

URL: https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/troubleshoot-getting-started

Fix problems when you verify your email, send your first prompt, or wait for your first version, and when an app's link opens a message instead of the app.

Use this page when you can't verify your email, can't send your first [prompt](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/glossary#brief), or your [first version](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/glossary#first-version) doesn't finish. See [Create an account](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/create-account) and [Write a prompt](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/write-a-prompt).

## You didn't get a verification email {#no-verification-email}

When you create an account with an email and password, we send you a verification email. To verify your email address, open the link in that email.

**What it means:** Your email address isn't verified yet, and you can't find the verification email. FlutterFlow sends your prompt or messages to the agent only after you verify your email.

**Fix it:**

1. Ask for a new verification email:
   - In the notice that says "Verify your email to start building." or "Verify your email to keep building.", click **Resend email**. On a phone, the notice under your prompt says **Check your email**. The button changes to **Email sent**. If it says **Couldn’t send. Try again**, click it again.
   - On your account's **Profile** page, where your **Email address** shows **Not verified**, click **Send verification**. See [Profile](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/profile).
2. Open the link in the new email.
3. Return to FlutterFlow.

## "Verify your email to start building." {#verify-to-start-building}

**What it means:** Your email address isn't verified, so FlutterFlow doesn't start building. This message appears in one of three places:

- Under the prompt box, after you send a prompt for a new app. FlutterFlow keeps the prompt in the box. On a phone, this notice says **Check your email**.
- On the message box of your new app's thread, if FlutterFlow sent your prompt before checking whether your email was verified.
- On the message box, when you start a new thread in an existing app.

When you create an account with an email and password, we send you a verification email. To verify your email address, open the link in that email.

**Fix it:**

1. Open the link in the verification email. If you can't find the email, click **Resend email** in the notice.
2. Return to FlutterFlow. FlutterFlow checks your verification status, sends any held prompt or first message automatically, and starts building your app.
3. If FlutterFlow doesn't send your prompt or message after you verify, send it again.

<Mock name="verify-to-start-building" alt="A Ledger prompt kept in the prompt box, and under it the notice Verify your email to start building, with a Resend email button." />

## "Verify your email to keep building." {#verify-to-keep-building}

**What it means:** Your email address isn't verified, so FlutterFlow didn't send your message to the agent. This message appears in a thread you already started.

When you create an account with an email and password, we send you a verification email. To verify your email address, open the link in that email.

**Fix it:**

1. Open the link in the verification email. If you can't find the email, click **Resend email** in the notice.
2. Return to FlutterFlow and send your message again.

## The send button doesn't work {#send-does-nothing}

To send a prompt, click **Build the first version** under the box, or press `Control+Enter` (`Command+Enter` on macOS). If the button is unavailable, or your app doesn't start when you click it, match what you see to the following table:

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Build the first version** is unavailable, and the box is empty. | The prompt box is empty. | Write your prompt. |
| **Build the first version** is unavailable while an attached file is still uploading. | Every attached file must finish uploading before you send your prompt. | Wait until the file finishes uploading. |
| **Build the first version** is unavailable, and a message about a file appears under the box. | FlutterFlow couldn't attach a file. | Remove that file and send your prompt. |
| **Build the first version** is unavailable, and your prompt is longer than the limit. | A prompt must be 12 to 8,000 characters long. | Shorten your prompt. |
| "Say a little more about the app: who it is for and what it does." appears under the box. | Your prompt is too short. | Expand your prompt and send it again. |
| "Verify your email to start building." (on a phone, **Check your email**) appears under the box. | Your email address isn't verified. | See ["Verify your email to start building."](#verify-to-start-building). |
| A dialog about your plan opens, such as **You’ve used your free build**. | The dialog explains why your app didn't start. | See ["You’ve used your free build"](#free-build-used). |

## "You’ve used your free build" {#free-build-used}

See [Free first build](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/plans-and-allowance#free-build).

## "The first version couldn’t be built." {#first-version-couldnt-be-built}

**What it means:** The agent couldn't build your first version. The **First version** card says **The first version failed**, and the line under it states the reason, such as "The first version couldn’t be built."

**Fix it:**

1. On the **First version** card, click **Try again**.
2. If it fails again, click **Tell us what happened** to send feedback.

If the card says "This stopped when your usage ran out.", see [Out of allowance](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/out-of-allowance). For other reasons the card can show, see [Troubleshoot threads and the agent](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/troubleshoot-threads).

<Mock name="first-version-failed" alt="The First version card saying The first version failed, with the reason under it and the Tell us what happened and Try again buttons." />

## The first version was stopped {#first-version-stopped}

**What it means:** The first version stopped before finishing, for example because you clicked **Stop** on the **First version** card (or **Cancel build** on a phone). The card says **The first version was stopped** and "Send a message to pick it up again."

**Fix it:**

- To resume building, send a message in the thread.

## "The first version isn't in your app yet" {#first-version-not-in-your-app}

**What it means:** The agent's first turn ended before pushing the first version to your app. The **First version** card says **The first version isn't in your app yet**, and the line under it states what's missing, for example "It wasn't pushed to your app. Ask the agent to finish the first version."

**Fix it:**

- In the thread, ask the agent to finish the first version.

If you sent more messages after the first turn, the card says **The first turn ended before it was pushed to your app** instead, and later turns continue from there.

## Files that you attached to your prompt are gone after a reload {#attachment-lost-after-reload}

**What it means:** The page reloaded while your first version was starting, before FlutterFlow finished uploading the files attached to your prompt. The first version builds from your prompt without those files. FlutterFlow says "The reference file did not survive the reload. Attach it again in a reply." When more than one file is lost, the message states the number of files.

**Fix it:**

1. After the first version finishes, click **Attach files** in the message box and select the files again.
2. Tell the agent how to use the files and send the message.

See [Attachments](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/attachments).

## Your app has a name that you didn't choose {#unexpected-app-name}

**What it means:** A new app takes its initial name from the first few words of your prompt, up to the end of the first sentence or clause. For example, a prompt that starts "A habit tracker for busy parents." names the app **A habit tracker for busy**. If FlutterFlow can't form a name from your prompt, it names the app **New app**. While the first version builds and its thread stays open, FlutterFlow updates the app name to the one the agent chooses. If you leave the thread early, the app keeps the name from your prompt.

**Fix it:**

- Rename your app. See [App name and launch screen](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/app-name).

## "This app isn't available" {#app-not-available}

**What it means:** You opened a link to an app that your account can't access. FlutterFlow says "It may have been deleted, or you don't have access. If someone shared it with you, ask them to invite you." The page also shows the account you're signed in with.

**Fix it:**

1. If another FlutterFlow account has access to the app, click **Use another account** and sign in with that account. FlutterFlow then reopens the link.
2. Otherwise, ask the person who shared the app to invite you. See [Accept an invitation](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/accept-an-invitation).

To leave the page, click **Go to your apps**.

If you have a pending invitation to the app, the page says **You're invited to** followed by the app's name, and lets you respond there.

<Mock name="app-not-available" alt="The This app isn't available page: It may have been deleted, or you don't have access, a Go to your apps button, and the Signed in as line with Use another account." />

## "This app was deleted" {#app-was-deleted}

**What it means:** Someone deleted the app. The page states when the app was deleted and the deadline to restore it. After that deadline passes, the page says "It can no longer be restored."

**Fix it:**

- If you're an owner of the app, click **Restore** to reopen it. If restoring fails, the page states the reason and changes the button to **Try again**.
- If you aren't an owner, the page says "An owner can restore it" and shows the deadline. Ask an owner to restore the app.
- If the app can no longer be restored, click **Go to your apps**.

See [Delete or restore an app](https://docs.flutterflow.io/ffx/delete-an-app).
